Hey everybody,
Well these last two weeks have been great. My time in the enlightenment phase of school came to an end March 26th, which means I have started my time down on the clinic floor. I loved my first day in the salon! I had two guests both of which got haircuts. My first guest took a little bit longer than expected. She was very sweet and we cut almost six inches off of her hair to give her a short pixie cut with longer sweeping bangs. It was hard but I loved the challenge and she ended up really liking it so I was happy. It was a real great experience to be able to use what I learned in the classroom in a salon environment. But that was just a taste of what is to come for the rest of my time at Aveda.
That week was also great because it was my sisters 22nd birthday on the 31st. On Thursday I went to a Lady Gaga concert and it was amazing!!! It was certainly a good week overall. Saturday was our first day back in the classroom to learn about color and I really enjoyed it. We learned all about Aveda’s color line and it got me really excited to start learning how to apply it and the different techniques. On Saturday night I had one client and it went well. She got a simple cut with some layers and I gave her some cute textured bangs and it turned out great. Then everyone pitched in and cleaned everything to get the salon ready for the next week. I am looking forward to this week and getting back in the salon and doing some hair!!! Peace and love.
Kelly
Hey everyone this is my first blog, so to start off I would like to tell you all a little bit about myself. My name is Kelly Haley and I am 20, soon to be 21, years old. I am a student at the Aveda Institute in Los Angeles and loving every minute of it. I come from a pretty small town in southern CA, bet you haven’t even heard of it! Its Wildomar, we weren’t even an official city till the end of 2009 I think.
Guests, Demos & Fashion Shows
Here is Ricardo doing the demo cut.
This is the finished cut and style.
We Had an assembly as well with a really cool guest speaker. His name is Ricardo Altieri, he is a hairstylist ans business owner. He works with his brother ans they own salons and have their own product line. The Altieri brothers are pretty famous and they have also traveled and have done hair shows all over the world. He was very funny and listening to his stories was really interesting. He gave a demo haircut on one of the instructors and gave us some great technical tips and tricks.
Last week was also awesome because instead of sitting in the classroom all day on Saturday like we normally do, my class, our teacher Marisa, a few other students, and another instructor, Brandon, went to do hair and makeup for an AIDS benefit fashion show put on by APLA. We had a blast! There was another school, and a salon there to help with hair and makeup too. The school was the All About Face Academy and then girls from Carlton salon were there. Everyone was really friendly and all the looks for the models turned out great. The show was a design contest for middle school, high school and college kids. Some of the designs were made out of APLA T-shirts, which I thought was really creative. Unfortunately they were short on models so some of the hairstylists and make-up artists ended up walking in the show, including me. Yes I was volunteered to be a model!!! Two of my classmates also modeled, Taylor, and Porcsha. Some girls from Carlton salon were also roped into being models, it was fun and we all had a good laugh about it. The dress I wore was designed by an 8th grader and it was made out of T-shirts, I thought it was really cute. I took a ton of pictures and I would love to share them with you.
So needless to say it was a good two weeks. I am really looking forward to the next two weeks and earth month. So far school has been a bumpy ride but I am loving it all. See you all next blog. Stay fresh!
