Time Flies!

So I realized the other day that it has been 5 months since I started school. It is kind of crazy to think about. In a month and a half I will be halfway done with school. In other news my class benchmarked for color last week and it went really well. I passed so that means I will be performing color services on the salon floor now. I haven’t had my first color client yet but I am excited for when I do, a little nervous, but excited. We had a written test and then a practical exam. The practical exam was the hard part, but it was over before we all knew it. It was a pretty busy week last week at Aveda, lots of clients and lots of learning. We also got a new instructor last week. Her name is Soozie and so far she is really great. She is very helpful and nice to everyone. I am looking forward to this week’s theory class because our teacher Marisa comes back and we get to start learning about perms and relaxers. This week is also exciting because it is the Peppermint classes first week on the salon floor, so congratulations to them and I hope they have fun. I have become pretty close to most of the students in the peppermint class and it will be nice to have them on the floor right next to our class and we can support each other and have a great time. I am looking forward to what surprises this week might bring but I am looking up, being positive and smiling through it all. The past couple of weeks have been quite emotional for me having to say goodbye to friends and dealing with some other emotionally trying situations but it’s a brand new day and everything is looking wonderful. I am healthy, happy and on my way to a wonderful week at school. Hope you all have a great week as well. Peace.

Haircuts and Highlights

Hey all,

Well it’s been a busy few weeks. I have friends in town from London and they came in to get there hair done by me the first day they were here. I had an awesome time cutting their hair and I think they both really liked the result.

That week we started learning highlights and foiling in our theory class. I thought it was a lot of fun. We were supposed to have a test but the test and the supplies got locked in a cupboard that no one had a key for! It was an interesting day to say the least. My birthday is coming up this week so I took the week off of school to spend some time traveling with my friends and celebrating my birthday. Last week my friend and fellow student Sara Hollinger was messing around with my hair and she did it up in this super cute little bow of hair! I am planning on wearing my hair like that when I visit Disneyland this week. So, on that note I will leave you with a photo of my awesome hair bow. I will have lots more to tell and more pics up in the next blog. Until next time, love and peace.

Time is flying!

Today’s blog is going to be pretty short due to the lack uneventful last 2 weeks I have had. But I can not believe it is already May. This will be my 4th month of school and it is flying by. Last week everyone was busy preparing for the Earth Jam fashion show that is actually happening tonight. I am sad that I can’t be there to see the show but I am sure it is going to be fabulous! Last week I helped build some wigs/hair pieces for the show. We were making a giant hat out of hair. It was really cool to work on, but I didn’t get to see it finished. Other than Earth Jam festivities last week was pretty un-eventful for me. Spent most of my school week helping out other students and being in dispense. I am looking forward to the next few weeks because I have friends coming into town from London. They are going to come into Aveda and have me do their hair and we are going to spend some time seeing LA. Also my birthday is this month so I am excited about that as well. Well I am hoping time just keeps flying by because I am loving every minute. That’s about all I can say right now, hopefully there will be more to tell you next time. Peace and Love.

Guests, Demos & Fashion Shows

It’s been a good 2 weeks since my last blog. Had some really great guests come in for haircuts last week, my favorite was a girl named Iris. She is a student at UCLA and around the same age as me. We had an awesome conversation while I was doing her hair, we had a lot in common and she was so sweet. I don’t think I have talked so much to a guest ever! We talked about concerts we’ve been to, relationships, family, and a whole bunch of other things. It was really nice to just talk. Here is a picture of her when I was done with her haircut, she liked it a lot and said she would be coming back to me again.

Here is Ricardo doing the demo cut.

This is the finished cut and style.

We Had an assembly as well with a really cool guest speaker. His name is Ricardo Altieri, he is a hairstylist ans business owner. He works with his brother ans they own salons and have their own product line. The Altieri brothers are pretty famous and they have also traveled and have done hair shows all over the world. He was very funny and listening to his stories was really interesting. He gave a demo haircut on one of the instructors and gave us some great technical tips and tricks.

Last week was also awesome because instead of sitting in the classroom all day on Saturday like we normally do, my class, our teacher Marisa, a few other students, and another instructor, Brandon, went to do hair and makeup for an AIDS benefit fashion show put on by APLA. We had a blast! There was another school, and a salon there to help with hair and makeup too. The school was the All About Face Academy and then girls from Carlton salon were there. Everyone was really friendly and all the looks for the models turned out great. The show was a design contest for middle school, high school and college kids. Some of the designs were made out of APLA T-shirts, which I thought was really creative. Unfortunately they were short on models so some of the hairstylists and make-up artists ended up walking in the show, including me. Yes I was volunteered to be a model!!! Two of my classmates also modeled, Taylor, and Porcsha. Some girls from Carlton salon were also roped into being models, it was fun and we all had a good laugh about it. The dress I wore was designed by an 8th grader and it was made out of T-shirts, I thought it was really cute. I took a ton of pictures and I would love to share them with you.

So needless to say it was a good two weeks. I am really looking forward to the next two weeks and earth month. So far school has been a bumpy ride but I am loving it all. See you all next blog. Stay fresh!
